The Department of Writing Studies is the home of first-year writing and offers courses in support of UM’s General Education Requirements for written communication skills, as well as a variety of discipline-specific courses. The Department has a minor in Professional Writing and houses UM's Writing Center, which offers consultations for students and faculty across the University. The Writing Center offers appointments online and in person. Through its various specialized programs and initiatives, the Department contributes to the improvement of writing skills for all UM students and faculty.
The Department is housed in the Ferre Building, 1000 Memorial Drive (adjacent to the Foote Green and next to Merrick fountain).
